Happiest Birthday, Dear Poutmore

You're 10, (though you hardly look it).

I've sadly neglected you in the past decade, writing in fits and starts; this little Poutmore that launched at El Gaucho back in the dot-com heyday on 9-9-99.

But that was just the online "official" launch of Poutmore - an online magazine dedicated to "What It Is". Unofficially, Poutmore existed as an "underground" 'zine during my high school years, cut and pasted in my bedroom, but never brought to fruition due to the lack of copier-access. Online, Poutmore tracked fashion, books and music, but soon fell by the wayside, thanks to actual dot-com career. In 2006, Poutmore was resuscitated as a very personal 'blogendeavor' - a spot to tout my favorite fashion finds and fashion history moments.

Today, on this auspicious anniversary, I promise to post at least once a week and create something worthy of following by others! More fashion history; check. More Design analysis; check. More industry insight; check. More of what I yearned to see growing up fashion-centric (in the pre-Internet era, no less!) - definitely. Are you with me? I do hope so. -CC

Current POUT: Mismatching Imagery

I'm getting ready to bring Poutmore back. More on that later. So here's my current pout. Sometimes clothing looks SO good in one photo - whether it's the styling, the model, the pose, the set...and then in the catalog shot it doesn't look so hot anymore.

Case in point: the C&C "California 50/50 Cotton Cashmere Open Front Striped Hooded Sweater" which caught my eye on their homepage today. In a word: gorgeous. The model looks effortlessly chic - who wouldn't want to live life like her?




So I madly clicked away until I located the sweater (in 'cardigans', not 'sweaters' after all) and was met by this photo:



What happened to the carefree life this $265 sweater promised me on the homepage? This model looks overwhelmed and not a little bit frumpy in her slightly wrinkled and oversized cardi :( My desire to buy was immediately doused and I am reminded again not to be overly swayed by ONE distinctly fabulous image when it comes to online shopping. Perhaps I'll wait for the sale rack on this one. Thanks C&C!

J'Adore Dior (again)

Forget that this is supposed to be Fall fashion and just immerse yourself in the Flemish splendour that is the Dior show. Name one other designer who does couture like Mr. John Galliano.

Me and Cindy and Chanel J12

The J12 is one of my goals in life. It's been established as a reward for me in the future based on attaining several other goals. Anyway, tonight I was bothered/inspired/envious to see Cindy McCain sporting the white ceramic J12 at the RNC and upon searching "Cindy McCain J12" on Google for confirmation, found that she also sports the black J12 from time to time. *sigh*

PS. Interesting commentary on pricing out current and potential Republicn First Ladies' ensembles at Vanity Fair. Can I just say that this is probably a bit off base (doubt those earrings are new and cost that much), but still, perhaps Republicans may want to lay off using "cosmopolitan" "polished" and "elitist" as degrading terms? Just a thought.

PPS - Props to Cindy McCain for rediscovering bangs! I love watching hairstyles improve as campaigns go on :)

Pretty Pretty, a Pretty Gift for Me...

I've been told I'm hard to buy for on gift-giving ocassions. That sounds silly, because I constantly see things that would make perfect and not-too-expensive sentimental gifts for me, myself, and I.

Like this particular completely-uneccessary-but-would-make-me-smile-every-time-I-saw-it-and-of-course-think-of-the-person-who-thoughfully-picked-it-out-for-me-even-though-I-blogged-it "gold bless you" tissue pouchette from Victoire. What? You've never heard of a tissue pouchette?! ...I rest my case.

Something Not Quite Right...


...about this fantastic Nicole Miller dress. Now, I'm not gonna lie, Nicole Miller crafts these sleek little body hugger v-neck cocktail numbers that just WORK with my body's proportions and make me wish we all dressed or at least spent time on the set of Mad Men.

And really, I thought this dress in particular would be my new favorite dress to get me through Fall events around town (especially since it's on sale!), but then I clicked...and saw the back of the dress...and that colorblocking just isn't right. :( Me. Sad.

Is This Anything?

I'm borderline. They're Charmone shoes, vegan and eco-friendly-ish, as well as being on sale, but most importantly - will they go smashingly and chicly with all the cute new dresses and dark denim for Fall or will they look a little hokey? What do you think?

Well hello pretty, I see you on the Target.com site for just $26.99 and wonder how you feel on my foot...is this the price point where pain doesn't matter? This "Verdi" wedge from Target's Mossimo line is a veritable conjunction-junction of trends that may actually work... will have to see it in person to decide.

Um, yah. It's no mistake that Nordstrom photographed this Juicy Couture beret on a model looking eerily familiar to one of our favorite network stars, Leighton Meester. Is it, now?

But I'd venture to guess B. would never wear anything so blatantly Juicy.

Missed Opportunity

Just found this brilliant blouson top from Karoo by Mark Eisen at Tee-Zone - on sale (!) but sold out in this color and my size :( I'm batting 0 for 3 since that Nicole Miller purse and the Nordstrom one arm-wrap sold out. What next?

It sounds greedy, I know, but there was ONE on etsy and now it's MINE. I haven't even decided what to store in it just yet, but probably will relocate all U2 memorabilia from the Coach shoebox in which it currently resides. Or maybe I'll use it as a purse next tour. Mostly I'll just gaze at it and admire it.

Admittedly not a traditional Potmore post, but just had to do it.

CURRENT NET-A-PORTER SALE OBSESSIONS

Not that I would wear these together, but you can never go wrong with James Perse (cardigan), the color of these Chloe jeans is to die for, even if the rise is too low for my liking, and these Pedro Garcia pumps make me want to build them a little glass enclosure and protect them at all costs. Ah, decisions, decisions.

Well it took me long enough. After several years now of checking out the Target GO lines put together by visiting designers, I finally found something I love so much I had to have it...the woven tote by Gryson for Target. Normally the quality of these "designer" Target pieces - clothing and accessories - is severely lacking. But this little guy is gorgeous and actually looks like it could be leather. Plus the lining is super chic (cream w/black zip inside). We're going to have a lot of fun together.
